Tourist arrivals increase by 5.7 percent in February

Tourist arrivals has increased by 5.7 percent in February 2014 compared with the corresponding period in 2013.

Statistics published by Ministry of Tourism show that tourist arrivals for February 2014 and February 2013 were 110,705 and 104,645 respectively – adding up to an increase of 5.7 percent.

The statistics show that tourist arrivals for February 2014 was highest from China, but at 33,213, it was a decrease of 1.1 percent compared with the corresponding period last year.

A total of 55,780 tourists visited Maldives in February 2014 from Europe, while 48,765 came from Asia, and 2,915 came from the US.

Tourist arrivals for this year at the end of February 2014 stood at 216,001, an increase of 11.6 percent compared with the corresponding period last year.
