Juvenile Court allows HRCM to answer false report

Juvenile Court has allowed the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) to answer what the court says are false allegations in a report communicated by the commission to the court in December last year.

Although details of the allegations are scant, Sun is aware that the report is regarding the responses by different state institutions over the sexual injuries suffered by the 15-year-old girl who was later sentenced to flogging for fornication early last year.

HRCM members and lawyer attended the Juvenile Court at 9:30 a.m. today. A court official said the court wants to clarify information provided in the report and that there are no charges against the commission.

HRCM members requested the court to allow them to respond in writing, a request that was denied. The members were then allowed to answer to the court after a 10-day period.
