An Audit Report released by the Auditor General’s Office has revealed that goods worth MVR 2.2 million were purchased by Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC) without going through proper bidding processes.
This was stated in the Audit Report of MRDC for 2011.
The report states the corporation lacks a procurement regulation, and that goods worth MVR 2,266,378 were purchased without opening for bidding in 2011.
The report notes that the corporation had not maintained appropriate documentation of its daily transactions.
In this regard, the report states that there were no documents to verify that the company had assets in its possession, and that documentation was also lacking for missing or sold assets, which had increased the chances of assets going missing, being misused, or being sold.
The report also highlights that MVR 175,039 was paid to employees as overtime, but there were no documents to prove that this money had been obtained by MRDC lawfully .
