Incumbent Feydhoo MP Alhan Fahmy has withdrawn an appeal case in High Court, asking for a stay order upon the Elections Commission to halt Feydhoo candidate Mohamed Nihad’s candidacy for the parliamentary election.
Nihad won the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Feydhoo ticket against MP Alhan, a vote that the incumbent said was rigged.
Withdrawing the case, MP Alhan told the court cannot fulfill the objectives of his appeal within a desired time, as the parliamentary election is scheduled for this Saturday. The appeal follows a rejection by the Civil Court.
Rejecting MP Alhan’s request for a stay order to halt his opponents primary candidacy, Civil Court had ruled that such election-related issues fall into the jurisdiction of the High Court.
