Elections Commission has extended the time for parliamentary candidates to sign their voters’ lists, until noon on Sunday.
The commission had earlier said signing of voters’ lists will conclude at 10:30 p.m. tonight. The move follows requests by candidates, including independents, the commission said.
In an announcement today, Elections Commission said signing of voters’ lists will continue tomorrow from 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidates finished signing the voters’ lists yesterday and Jumhoory Party candidates finished signing the lists around sundown today.
Following a Supreme Court guideline issued upon the Elections Commission after the annulment of the 2013 presidential election, the commission is required to seek the signatures of each competing candidate and to have them endorse the voters' lists for their relevant constituencies.
