A speedboat in K. Gulhi boat yard toppled today, killing a man from the injuries sustained from the incident.
Ismail, a source from Gulhi boat yard said that the incident happened around 9:30 a.m. and that the victim was promptly transported to the capital on a speedboat.
Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), located in the capital Male’ said that the 40-year-old man was brought to the hospital around 10:15 a.m. and that the man died while being treated for his injuries around 12:45 p.m.
The source from the boat yard said the man was trying to single-handedly lift the speedboat with a jack, when it gave away and fell on the man’s leg, severing it from the knee.
“We told him, because we were trying to bring another boat to shore, that we’ll bring it ashore and help him. He thought it might take too long and told us he will do it by himself. We also advised him to put on the safety equipment,” Ismail, the source from the boat yard said.
