High Court supports Criminal Court

High Court has ruled that Criminal Court’s extension of detention period for one of the suspects arrested at Maafannu Zillion was lawful.

This High Court ruling came in relation to the extension of the detention period for Fathimath Maya Khaleel by 15 days by Criminal Court.

High Court said that since Maya Khaleel was arrested on suspicion of dealing drugs, a crime classified by Supreme Court under serious crimes, her release could threaten the peace and safety of the general public.

Criminal Court has extended the detention periods for all suspects arrested at Maafannu Zillion, including an individual who had earlier been sentenced to life imprisonment following drug charges.
