Elections Commission has said that candidates will no longer be allowed to withdraw their candidacies submitted for the Parliamentary Election scheduled for 22 March.
Director General of Elections Commission Mohamed Shakeel said today that withdrawal of candidacies was closed following the determination of the candidate order on ballot papers.
“The commission can no longer allow withdrawal of candidacies,” said Shakeel.
He said that even if a candidate decides to withdraw, his name would still appear on the ballot paper.
Elections Commission has said that the names of the 304 candidates contesting the Parliamentary Election will be announced soon.
So far, candidacies have been withdrawn by seven applicants.
