Voting ongoing for five council elections

Voting is under way for three island council elections that required second rounds, one island council election that was cancelled, and one atoll council election that was postponed by the court.

The ongoing elections are for the island councils of Haa Alifu Muraidhoo, Raa Maakuratha, Baa Fehendhoo, and Noonu Miladhoo; and for Vilingili for the atoll council of Gaafu Alifu Atoll.

Director General of Elections Commission Mohamed Shakeel said that second rounds were required for Muraidhoo, Maakuratha, and Fehendhoo because two candidates gained equal votes in these elections.

Miladhoo council election result was cancelled following complaints, and voting in Vilingili for Gaafu Alifu Atoll Council election was postponed by Supreme Court.

Shakeel said that ballot boxes will be closed and counting will begin at 4:00 p.m.
