Abandoned vehicles to be removed by police

Police have started removing vehicles that have been ‘dumped’ and remained on the streets for long periods.

Head of Traffic Police Asim Abdulla told Sun Online today that this is part of Maldives Police Service’s efforts to assist City Council, and that City Council had made an announcement in this regard some time ago.

“We started removing vehicles at 8:30 a.m. By noon, we have removed 22 four-wheeled vehicles and 28 motorcycles,” Asim said.

He said that the efforts will continue until 5:00 p.m. and if more vehicles remain, the program will continue tomorrow as well.

This program is conducted by Male’ City Council, Transport Authority, and Maldives Police Service; and is assisted by Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), State Trading Organisation (STO), and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

City Council said earlier that damaged vehicles will be taken to the area behind Thaajuddin School, and vehicles in better condition will be taken to Gaakoshi.

A fine will be imposed before these vehicles are released to their owners.
