Crew of hit-and-run vessel taken into custody

Police have taken into custody the crew of a hit-and-run vessel involved in an accident that caused a dhoni named 3A28, carrying 12 people from Male’ to Faafu Filitheyo Resort, to sink.

The police said that all crew members of the suspect vessel called Kurimathi, found in Hulhumale’ harbour, were taken into custody at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Police did not specify the number of people that were taken into custody.

The accident took place at 4:30 a.m. on Friday morning, and caused the 60-foot 3A28 to sink about 15 miles off Alifu Dhaalu Dhigurah.

There were eight men, two women and two children on board 3A28 at the time of the accident.

The accident is under investigation by the police.
