Police launch search for hit-and-run vessel

Search efforts have been launched for the hit-and-run vessel involved in the accident that caused 3A28 dhoni, carrying 12 people from Male’ to Faafu Filitheyo Resort, to sink.

The accident took place at 4:30 a.m. on Friday morning, and caused the 60-foot 3A28 to sink about 15 miles off Alifu Dhaalu Dhigurah.

There were eight men, two women and two children on board 3A28.

All 11 passengers excluding the captain have been taken to Male’ on Coast Guard Squadron Harbour Craft 113. The captain stayed behind with police at the area of the accident to assist the efforts to locate the hit-and-run vessel.

The search efforts are being carried out by an investigation team of the Marine Police.

Police said that the vessel is likely to have noticeable damage on its front end, and has urged anyone with any information to contact Marine Police at 9998014 or 9926094.

The police have thanked the public for their support in this investigation.
