JP grants tickets to six more MPs

Government coalition partner Jumhoory Party (JP) has granted party parliamentary tickets to six more sitting MPs.

A member of the JP council told Sun that the party’s leader MP Gasim Ibrahim has been given the ticket to stand again for his present constituency, Maamigili.

In addition, MP Hussain Mohamed has been granted the ticket for Mathiveri, MP Hassan Latheef has been given the ticket for Hithadhoo-south, MP Hassan Adil has been given the ticket for Maradhoo and MP Ahmed Mohamed has been granted the ticket for Naifaru. Tickets for all four MPs are of the seats they presently hold.

Gemanafushi MP, the party’s current Deputy Leader Ilham Ahmed received the ticket for the newly established Dhangethi constituency.

JP council last night decided to give the party’s tickets to sitting MPs, Dhidhdhoo MP Ahmed Sameer and Kanditheem MP Mohamed Hussain. Although the MPs have not yet joined JP, the tickets will be given as soon as they sign the membership forms, said a JP official today.

JP has opened applications for the 19 slots allowed to the party, to stand for election through the governing coalition. The parliamentary election is scheduled for 22 March.
