Ruling party, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has revealed that 150 members have applied to compete in the party's parliamentary primary, scheduled for 2 February.
Deadline for applications expired at 4:00 p.m. today. PPM said the application will be evaluated by a special committee and that it will announce the candidates as soon as possible.
PPM will compete for 49 of the 85 seats in the parliamentary election scheduled for 22 March. Candidates fielded by the ruling coalition will contest the remaining 36 seats.
