Presenter and reporter for public broadcaster Television Maldives (TVM) Aishath Leeza has applied to compete for a parliamentary ticket from the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
Speaking to Sun, Leeza, 25, said she will stand for Henveyru-central seat in Male’ and that she has submitted her primary application today.
“I am just standing for the primary. God willing, I will win the primary,” said Leeza, also confirming that she has joined PPM.
Leeza boasts 8 years of experience as a journalist and has held the Deputy Editor position at MBC news. Leeza said she has always had ambitions for politics and that she took opportunity when it presented itself.
If she wins the ticket, Leeza will stand against MP Ali Azim of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). MP Azim has already secured his party’s ticket for the Henveyru-central seat.
