PPM parliamentary primary to be held on 4 February

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has announced today that the party’s parliamentary primary has been scheduled for 4 February 2014.

The party said today that applications for the primary will be reviewed based on a special review. The criteria include; whether the member had maintained the party’s ideology, the member’s contribution to the party, the member’s contribution to the presidential campaign and the member's legislative experience.

The applicants must score more than 75 from the review to secure a candidacy in the primary. PPM has decided to award tickets to 49 of the 85 seats in parliament. The remaining 36 seats will be contested by candidates fielded by the ruling coalition.

Applications for PPM's primary is set to close at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 28 January. The parliamentary election is scheduled for 22 March.
