Civil Court has ordered Maldives Police Service to issue a formal apology to Sabra Noordeen, former Director of Police Intelligence Department, after she won an illegal arrest case against the police.
In her case, Sabra argued that her arrest on the night of 16 March was carried out against article 244 of the Constitution, which outlines the primary objectives of the Police Service. The court has also ordered the police to remove all records of her arrest.
Sabra Noordeen was arrested for obstructing police duties and assaulting police officers with regard to an incident on the Neelofaru Hingun – Majeedhee Magu intersection, on the day former President Mohamed Nasheed was arrested by order of the Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court in 2012.
