MP Sameer withdraws name ahead of Primary

Sitting Dhidhdhoo MP Ahmed Sameer has withdrawn his name from Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) Primary for Dhidhdhoo, ahead of the Parliamentary Election in March 2014.

Sameer told Sun Online that he withdrew his name because he does not believe that he will get enough support from party members.

“I can win the Primary. But there’s a group of people who say that they will not cooperate with me if I’m elected. So I’ve decided to give the opportunity to someone else.”

Sameer however said that he will run for Dhidhdhoo seat for one more term. He did not disclose whether he would do so on a political party ticket or as an independent candidate.

He said that the people of Dhidhdhoo recognise his work as an MP, and that he is confident that they will elect him for an additional term.

Sameer’s opponents at MDP’s Primary scheduled for Friday are MDP members Adam Naseer and Mohamed Hashim.
