President of Saudi Arabia’s Muslim Scholars Association Dr Nasir Al Umar has arrived in the Maldives on an invitation of Ministry of Islamic Affairs.

The 11-member delegation was welcomed at the official jetty by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and senior officials of the ministry.

Speaking to the media at the jetty, Minister Shaheem said that this is the first senior Saudi Arabian delegation to visit Maldives in a long time.

He said that the purpose of this visit is to strengthen relations between Islamic institutions in both countries, and to identify areas in which Saudi Arabian Islamic institutions can assist Maldives.

Minister Shaheem said that the visiting officials will meet with religious scholars in the Maldives, and also give lectures as part of this visit.

The delegation will spend five days in Maldives.
