Allowance for elderly to be increased soon, says VP

Vice President Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said that the social protection allowance for elderly above the age of 65 will be increased to MVR 5000 soon, as promised by the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives.

Speaking at an event hosted by locals of Fuvahmulah last night to congratulate the Vice President’s inauguration, Dr Jameel said that the allowance will be soon granted through an insurance scheme.

He also noted that the government’s universal health care program Aasandha has also been changed to an unlimited scheme starting from January.

The government will give special attention to the needs of the people, promised the Vice President. The people’s most pressing needs involve public services, he said.

The event also saw the presentation of a special plaque presented by the people of Fuvahmulah to commemorate the Vice President’s inauguration. The plaque was presented to Dr Jameel by members of Fuvahmuah Atoll Council.
