President nominates BML Associate Director as MMA governor

President Abdulla Yameen has nominated the Associate Director of Bank of Maldives (BML) Ibthishama Ahmed Saeed as the new governor of the central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

The governor position was left vacant after Fazeel Najeeb resigned on 1 January citing personal reasons.

President Abdulla Yameen has proposed Ibthishama’s name to the parliament. She becomes the first women to be considered for the governor position at MMA.

Ibthishama Ahmed Saeed joined BML in July 2003 and boasts 10 years of experience at the bank. She was promoted to Associate Director last year.

Ibthishama possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from University of Kerala, India and a Master’s Degree in Marketing and Communications from the University of Westminster in London.

Speaking at the Progressive Coalition rally last night, President Yameen announced that the central bank will next have a woman as governor.
