2463 candidates stand for Local Council Election

Elections Commission (EC) has announced that 2463 candidates will compete for 1100 seats in the Local Council Elections scheduled for 18 January.

An official from EC said today: “2463 candidates will compete in the Local Council Election to be held on 18th this month. This include 2147 candidates for island councils, 275 candidates for atoll council and 41 candidates for city councils,” the official said.

The election will see local representatives elected to 951 island council seats, 132 atoll council seats and 17 city council seats.
