Four of the twelve families who were relocated following a fire that burned down five row houses in Hulhumale’, have been moved back to their houses.
Managing Director of Hulhumale’ Development Corporation (HDC) Suhail Ahmed told Sun today that the four families from the least damaged houses, which have now been fully restored, were allowed back their houses on Friday.
“There were 12 families [relocated to] temporary flats. Top floors of the Mashi row houses 1 to 8 [house that sustained damages only to the top floors] have been repaired and four families have been moved back. Repair work for the remaining houses will begin soon,” Suhail said.
He said that HDC will commission a company for repair of the remaining houses within two week’s time. On Monday, HDC made an announcement seeking a company for the repair project. Suhail said two companies have applied and that both had quoted a two months for the reconstruction.
The fire in the afternoon of 27 December had damaged houses Mashi 1 through Mashi 5. No one was hurt in the incident.
The residents had said that an electric shortage was the fault of the fire. Police are still investigating the case.
