PPM proposes amendments to four laws

The ruling party, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), has proposed amendments to four laws - all aimed at increasing government income.

This includes a bill proposing to increase Airport Service Charge on foreign passengers from $18 to $25. This bill was submitted to the parliament by Maavah MP Abdul Azeez Jamal Abubakuru.

MP Abdul Azeez has also submitted a bill proposing amendments to the Tourism Act, to continue the imposition of Bed Tax after 1 January 2014.

The government has also proposed to increase Tourism GST to 12 percent. This bill was submitted to the parliament Fuvahmulah-Uthuru MP Mohamed Rafeeg Hassan.

An amendment has also been proposed to the Tourism Act by Ungoofaaru MP Ibrahim Ameen.

In addition, the government also recently decided to propose to reduce GST on Maldivian air travellers to six percent.
