Individual arrested on suspicion of theft in Maaenboodhoo

The police have retrieved the money stolen from the Health Centre in the island of Maaenboodhoo from the pocket of the man taken into custody on suspicion of this crime.

The police said that the 38-year-old man was taken into custody in Maaenboodhoo early this morning, during an operation by Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo Police Station.

The theft was reported to the police at after midnight last night, following which the police took the suspect into custody and checked him and discovered MVR 11,605 in his pocket.

The amount stolen from the Health Centre was MVR 12,556.

The safe in which the money had been kept was thrown into the sea, said the police.

The police have also retrieved MVR 500 in the sea near the safe, and said that out of the money stolen from the safe, only MVR 451 remains to be found.

Kudahuvadhoo Court has given the suspect a detention period of 15 days.
