Environment Ministry begins e-waste survey

Ministry of Environment and Energy has begun a survey to assess the amount and method of disposal of electronic waste in the Maldives.

According to the Ministry, the survey will also include a public awareness component which will provide information on proper disposal techniques.

The survey will be conducted by the Environment Ministry in conjunction with the Center for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), the Maldives National University (MNU) and the Maldives Red Crescent.

The lack of public awareness and a culture of environment friendly waste disposal techniques has been viewed as a major obstacle for sustainable development in the Maldives, especially for the densely populated Male’.
