The Public Accounts Committee of the parliament has passed to notify Male’ City Council to cease all projects except for projects related to essential public services.

The parliament said that this decision follows reports that the council prioritises the interests of particular groups when carrying out projects such as land development on contract basis.

This decision was passed by majority votes at a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee, said that parliament.

The parliament has not revealed details of individual votes by committee members on this matter.

The MPs present at today’s meeting of the Public Accounts Committee were Chairperson Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir, Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed, Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim, Kulhudhuffushi-Uthuru MP Abdul Gafoor Moosa, and Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Saleem.
