An individual has been arrested for stealing more than MVR 100,000 from the Council Office and Court in Gaafu Alifu Kanduhulhudhoo.
The police said that the suspect was taken into police custody following a court warrant, in Kanduhulhudhoo today.
President of Kanduhulhudhoo Council Rifau Rasheed said that MVR 65,000 was stolen from the Kanduhulhudhoo Council Office, and MVR 40,000 was stolen from Kanduhulhudhoo Court.
There have been reports that the individual was arrested while producing alcohol in the woods in the island.
The police denied this rumour, however said that an item containing alcohol was seized when the suspect was arrested.
Sun has come to know that the suspect is Shifaz Ahmed, 26, of Irudhyemaage, Gaafu Alifu Kanduhulhudhoo.
The police said that efforts are ongoing to find more suspects related to this crime.
