The State has completed presenting evidence to support its claims against Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir for using cannabis.
Testimonies were presented by three police officers at the trial held at Criminal Court today.
All three police officers testified that substances suspected to be drugs were found about ten feet from the scene of arrest of MP Jabir and several others, in Haa Dhaalu Hondaidhoo on the morning of 16 November 2012.
In response to questions posed by Jabir’s lawyer, Ishhar Thaufeeg, however, the three police officers said that they had not seen Jabir using drugs.
The police officer who tested the drugs seized from Hondaidhoo also testified in court today. He confirmed the validity of the report and said that the test was positive for cannabis.
Jabir claimed that he should not be held responsible for drugs that were found ten feet from the location of his arrest.
He said that Hondaidhoo had been leased to Yacht Tours Maldives Private Limited, and the maintenance of the island had been handed over to Mohamed Hamdhaan Zaki.
Jabir presented a document to prove this claim.
He requested the court to expedite hearings on this case, and said that he will be present in court even if a hearing is scheduled for tomorrow.
Adjourning the trial, the judge said that concluding statements will be presented at the next session, which will be held on Wednesday.
