The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has notified the Ministry of Education to postpone the handing over of documents to the 250 students who were earlier given higher education opportunities under the Tertiary Loan Scheme.
Education Ministry said that they have been notified to halt this process until ACC completes an investigation filed in relation to this loan scheme.
This notification by ACC came after Education Ministry arranged a ceremony for this evening, to hand over documents to students who received the grants.
Deputy Minister of Education Azleen Ahmed said, “It’s not possible to proceed with the process after ACC notified that there are legal problems involved. They contacted us by phone, and we asked them to contact the minister. After being notified by such a state institution, the case must be investigated,” Azleen said.
Education Ministry said that a team of ACC officials visited the ministry earlier to check the Tertiary Loan Scheme process.
The Tertiary Loan Scheme was announced in August 2013.
Education Ministry said it hopes to announce the names of the students chosen for this scheme next week, after ACC completes its investigation.
