Two superior court judges have become eligible for ownership of housing flats after completing the required payments.
A member of the Male’ City Council denied media reports that three judges have completed payments and said that two judges; Chief Judge of High Court Ahmed Shareef Ali and Family Court Judge Abdulla Adheeb, have been considered eligible for ownership of the housing flats.
The source said that contrary to a rumor, controversial Supreme Court judge Ali Hameed still has a pending payment of approximately MVR 300,000 and that ownership of the flat cannot be transferred before he completes the payment.
The council member also said that although Male' City Council has informed the Department of Judicial Administration that Judges Ahmed Shareef and Abdulla Adheeb have completed their payments, the council has not yet declared that the two judges have acquired ownership of the flats.
The judges completed their housing flat payments at a time when corruption allegations against the judiciary are rife. The source said the flats were leased during President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration.
