Spokesperson at the President’s Office Ibrahim Muaz Ali has said that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom would not compare any person to any prophet.
This remark follows allegations by some groups that the President demeaned Prophet Mohamed with his description of Nelson Mandela as ‘the greatest statesman the world has seen’.
Muaz said that Prophet Mohamed is the character most honoured by Muslims, and that it would not be possible to compare him to any other person.
President Yameen wrote in the book of remembrance for Mandela opened at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, “President Mandela was the greatest statesman the world has seen. His long walk to freedom; his achievement of the “Rainbow Nation”; his principles of courage, justice and equality are shining lights to millions around the world. His patriotism and his passion for the protection of human dignity will stay with us for generations to come.”
