Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) to be dissolved

The interim steering committee of the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM), founded by former Attorney General Dr Mohamed Munavvar, has passed that the party should be dissolved.

Dr Munavvar told Sun Online that this decision was passed unanimously by the 12 members who attended today’s meeting held at 1.30 p.m., following which the decision has been submitted to the Elections Commission.

He said that following the enforcement of the Political Parties Act, it is not possible for small parties to remain active.

Dr Munavvar said that he does not plan to join any political party, and will continue his engagement in the efforts to reform the judiciary.

MRM is the first political party to be dissolved in the Maldives.
