Elections Commission has announced the official results of second round of the presidential election held on Saturday, 16 November 2013.
The results were announced by the President of the Elections Commission Fuad Thaufeeq at press conference in Dharubaaruge this morning.
“According to the official results of this election, I hereby announce that the Progressive Party of Maldives’ presidential candidate Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom of Ma. Kaaminee Hulhanguge has been elected the president of the Maldives for the presidential term that began on 11 November 2013.”
The official results remained unchanged from the preliminary results announced around 1 a.m. on Saturday night. The results shows Abdulla Yameen received 111,203 votes, 51.39 percent and MDP candidate Mohamed Nasheed 105,181 votes, 48.61 percent.
The total number of valid votes stands at 216,381 ballots. Total invalid votes were 2,237 ballots. The total number of ballots cast was 218,621 ballots.
The total number of eligible voters for the second round of the presidential election was 239,165 voters. The voter turn out was 91.41 percent of the eligible voters.
