New President and Vice President take oath of office

Summary
Preparations for the swearing in ceremony of president-elect Abdulla Yameen are now underway. Vice President-elect Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed will also be sworn in at the ceremony, to be held in State convention centre Dharubaaruge at 1:00 p.m. today. Invitees include foreign diplomats, heads of government and independent institutions and members of the parliament. Article 114 of the constitution states that an incoming President or Vice President shall assume office upon taking and subscribing the relevant oath of office, before the Chief Justice or his designate, at a sitting of the Parliament.
