A large number of supporters of the Maldivian Democratic Party have conducted protests on boats at sea around Malé.
Five boats and a barge, loaded with people, took to the sea surrounding Malé around 4:40 today evening, and the protesters on them were supporting placards, banners, and MDP’s yellow flags. They left from the T-Jetty at the Western coast of Malé.
Today’s boat rally was named as “boat rally of the journey to justice”, and its participants kept on calling for the resignation of President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik.
After travelling around Malé for a while, the rally tried to enter Malé harbour from the direction of Jetty Number 1, which was closed by the vessels of the security forces, and the latter blocked the rally. No confrontations were there.
Today’s boat rally was concluded at T-Jetty when the call of sunset prayer was given, and it was announced that a similar rally would be conducted on boats tomorrow as well.
