Candidates conclude campaigns ahead of tomorrow

Presidential candidates have concluded their campaigns ahead of the second round of the presidential election tomorrow, Saturday 16 November.

In capital Male’, presidential candidates Mohamed Nasheed and Abdulla Yameen participated in the concluding campaign activities of their respective parties.

The campaign of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) coalition started at the area on the north of Alimas Carnival (baibala area). PPM supporters went on motorbikes and pickup trucks along the main roads of Male’, and concluded the campaign with a special prayer. The activity was also attended by PPM President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Jumhooree Party (JP) Leader Gasim Ibrahim and Adhaalath Party Leader Imran Abdulla.

Supporters of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) started their parade at Raalhugandu area. They marched along the main roads of Male’, and concluded the parade at Raalhugandu area, with a final speech by Nasheed.

The Elections Commission has announced that it is prohibited to conduct campaign activities between 6:00 p.m. today and 6:00 a.m. on Monday.

Article 44 of the Elections General Act states that it is prohibited to campaign or encourage campaign activities between 6:00 p.m. on the day before the election, until 6:00 a.m. on the day after the election.
