Nilam was summoned in relation to Afrasheem murder case: Police

The police have said that Brigadier General Ahmed Nilam was summoned for questioning in relation to the murder of former Ungoofaaru MP Dr Afrasheem Ali, on suspicion of ‘making baseless claims and trying to mislead the public’ on the issue.

Nilam was summoned and questioned by the police tonight, as well as last Sunday night.

When contacted by Sun Online earlier today, Nilam said that he answered all questions asked by the police.

The police said that following Nilam’s request, they have allowed him to appoint a lawyer.

The police said that their investigations and questioning thus far have revealed that Nilam had made claims that could destroy or undermine the evidence obtained in relation to the Afrasheem murder case.

The police have not revealed any details of the claims made by Nilam.

Nilam was not available for a comment at the time of press.

The former MNDF intelligence chief was suspended in January 2013, after he shared information with the parliament regarding the change of government on 7 February 2012.

MNDF said that despite the suspension, Nilam was allowed to attend his regular military duties.

Phe police have forwarded for prosecution cases of four individuals; brothers Abdulla Javid and Shaheen Mohamed, Azlif Raoof, and Adam Salah, suspected planning the murder.
