Vote for Yameen to protect military and police: Defence Minister Nazim

Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim has said that he decided to vote for Yameen because he does not want to see the day, when the military and the police are made to suffer.

Nazim made this remark while speaking at a PPM rally tonight.

“This is something we have to do, to ensure protection for the military and police officers and their families, who are working day and night to maintain peace and order in our country. I know well, the work done by the military and the police for the people and the nation,” said Nazim.

He said that on Saturday, people should vote to protect their religion, nation, independence, and sovereignty.

“If you make the wrong decision on Saturday, there is no doubt that the country will end up in darkness,” he said.

Nazim said that several foreign groups met with President Dr Mohamed Waheed recently and presented to him a paper which contained seven points. He said that this paper detailed the dangers that the country might face if presidential powers are not handed over to Speaker of Parliament Abdulla Shahid.

Nazim said that the president rejected this paper, and told the foreign visitors that they do not have the right to present such papers to this country.

He said that if the president had accepted that paper, Maldives would not be an independent nation today.

He said that Maldivians have the capability to decide for themselves, and urged everyone to vote for Yameen to work together to fight such influence from foreign groups.
