Four foreign nationals arrested while distilling alcohol

Police have raided Ma. Ranfaunuge and arrested four foreign nationals who were distilling alcohol.

The police said that the suspects are Indian nationals; three men aged 32, 35, and 29, and a woman aged 32.

They were arrested in an operation conducted by Drug Enforcement Department and Drug Intelligence, following information gathered by Drug Intelligence to indicate that alcohol was being produced at Ma. Ranfaunuge.

The arrest took place at 3:45 p.m.

The suspects were distilling alcohol in a bathroom when the police raided the building.

The police found two 5-litre barrels and one 1,500-ml bottle containing alcohol at the scene.

The equipment used by the suspects to distil alcohol have been confiscated.

This matter is under investigation by Maldives Police Service Drug Enforcement Department.
