Met Office warns of bad weather for next 24 hours

Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has issued a White Alert, cautioning the public to be mindful of bad weather for the next 24 hours.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms with gust winds of 45 mph are expected between Haa Alif & Laamu atoll from 7:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. today, the Service said.

According to the service, the current heavy rain and thunderstorms are attributed to the Hulhangu – south-west monsoon, and said heavy rain will be felt across the country for the next 24 hours.

A White Alert is issued when winds of speeds between 23 and 30 mph are expected to prevail, along with high tidal waves and rainfall of more than 50 mm within 24 hours. The alert accompanies weather information, but does not mean there is an immediate threat.
