Civil Service Commission (CSC) has held a meeting today, regarding the appointing an individual to the post of Director General of Transition.
The meeting, held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at CSC, was attended by President of CSC, presidential candidate of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Nasheed, representative of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Ahmed Siddheeg, and representative of Jumhooree Party (JP) Vilufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed.
CSC said that as per the Presidential Transition Act (Act 5/2010), it is the duty of the commission to appoint an individual to the post of Director General of Transition, to assist the elected president in transitional matters.
“The discussion was focused on appointing an individual to the post of Director General of Transition, and creating a policy on this,” said CSC.
Speaking to reporters outside Velaanaage after the meeting, Nasheed said that he encouraged the President of CSC to commence the efforts necessary for the ‘presidential transition’.
“The presidential transition must take place within a certain timeframe. According to the Constitution, that timeframe is between 10 October and 11 November. This should not change, depending on other factors,” he said.
