No-confidence motion passed against Deputy Mayor after he resigned

Male’ City Council has passed a no-confidence motion against Mohamed Samah, after he resigned from the post of Deputy Mayor yesterday.

The motion was voted in favour by six out of the seven members present at the City Council meeting today.

The motion against Samah, accusing him of being absent from work and failing to fulfil his responsibilities as Deputy Mayor, was filed by City Council Member Mohamed Aiman Ismail and supported by City Council Member Mohamed Afrah.

Samah told Sun Online today that he tendered his resignation yesterday for personal reasons.

“I don’t think there’s any reason to pass a no-confidence motion after I resigned. I only knew about it from people who called me on the phone,” he said.

Sun Online has come to know that the no-confidence motion was tabled after his resignation due to an administrative mix-up.
