Adhaalath Party calls for action against MDP for rejecting Supreme Court verdict

Adhaalath Party has called on authorities to take action against the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) for rejecting the Supreme Court verdict that annulled the September presidential election.

Vice president of the religiously conservative Adhaalath Party, Dr Mauroof Hussain said that MDP’s statement that the Supreme Court verdict was unconstitutional, was unacceptable.

“MDP issued a press statement challenging the Supreme Court. Where in the world is this acceptable? A political party has called to reject a Supreme Court ruling. A political party, or even an institution that calls for this shall be abolished. Even in other parts of the world,” Dr Mauroof said.

He said that MDP’s presidential candidate, former president Mohamed Nasheed standing for election is a threat to the country. He described the former president as a criminal, a mujrim, who had grossly violated the laws of the State.
