No capability to verify fingerprints on re-registration forms, says EC

Elections Commission (EC) has stated that no Maldivian institution currently has the capability to verify all of the fingerprints required on the re-registration forms, for the upcoming rerun of the presidential election.

EC president Fuad Thaufeeq told the press tonight that neither the police, nor the Department of National Registration (NDR) have the capability to verify fingerprints of all the citizens in the country.

EC Member Ali Mohamed Manik said that re-registration forms with fingerprint issues will be forwarded to the Maldives Police Service, but said that they too, will not be able to verify all such forms.
