A speedboat has sunk near Maadhoo Finolhu in Kaafu atoll after the boat’s engine caught fire.
Sun is aware that the speedboat started its journey around 8:30 a.m. and was travelling to Vaavu atoll when its engine caught fire, causing it to sink around 9:30 a.m. Police have confirmed the incident to Sun.
Guraidhoo Council Member Abdul Latheef Ahmed said that the boat did not have any passengers and that the captain and two crewmen are currently in Guraidhoo police station.
Police media official said that one of the crewman was a foreigner and that all three men have been transported to Guraidhoo with the help of locals.
Sun has received information that the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) is active on the scene, but an official from MNDF was unavailable for comment at the time of press.
