Hope Supreme Court will soon announce a verdict, says President Waheed

President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that he hopes that the Supreme Court will soon announce its ruling on the election case, currently being deliberated by the court.

President made his statement in an address to the nation this afternoon.

In his address, the President urged all parties and institutions to give their cooperation in implementing the order, when Supreme Court makes a decision.

“I am hopeful that the Supreme Court will soon announce its ruling on the vote dispute. I urge everyone to give their cooperation in implementing the Supreme Court decision.”

“At the same time, if there are any real evidence of voting irregularities, it is important to prove them in a Court,” President Waheed said.

This is not the time to create disputes among the three powers of the State, he said, but rather a time to be thoughtful and protect the safety and security of the people.

“This country does not belong to any one individual or any single group of people. This country belongs to all Maldivians. Every loss will be a loss for all. Considering this, it is paramount to protect the sovereignty and peace of the nation,” the President said.

He said that the government is making the necessary preparations to ensure a smooth transfer of power and that assured that the government will do everything possible for the elected candidate to assume the presidency on November 11.

President stressed that Maldivians have proved to be capable of resolving their own affairs, but said that if issues go unresolved, foreign parties would want to intervene in the Maldives’ domestic affairs.

“I strongly condemn calls for foreign military interventions in the Maldives, and to interfere in domestic affairs of the country. We are not intimidated by such calls. We are prepared to save the country from such foreign parties that may attempt to interfere in the powers of the state,” President said to the nation today.
