Police to appeal ruling to reinstate former head of police intelligence

Maldives Police Service has decided to appeal the Civil Court ruling to reinstate the former head of police intelligence Mohamed Hameed (MC Hameed).

Police media official said that the case will soon be appealed in High Court and that the police will not reinstate the former Superintendent of Police prior to a ruling from the Supreme Court.

Police has also appealed rulings to reinstate two former Chief Inspectors of Police, Mirfath Faiz and Ahmed Risheef Thoha.

Civil Court ruling on the 30th of last month ordered the police to pay Hameed's salary and allowances from this dismissal date of 7th August 2012, to restore the gap of his absence from service and to allow him to return to work within 15 days of the ruling.

Mohamed Hameed was dismissed following allegations of providing classified information to a publication by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), authored by MDP government’s former Defence Minister Minister Ameen Faisal and Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam. The report detailed the events surrounding the unexpected resignation of former president Mohamed Nasheed in February 2012.
