The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), which garnered majority votes in the first round of the presidential election, has passed a resolution on how to proceed following the Supreme Court order to delay the second round.
MDP’s National Council decided at a meeting held at Dharubaaruge today, to hold a mass protest and to continue with the current series of protests.
The resolution also states that presidential candidate of MDP, former President Mohamed Nasheed, should be sworn in as president if the second round of the election is not held before 11 November 2013.
Speaking at the meeting, Nasheed said that he does not believe that an election will be held while the present government is in power, and called for a change of government.
He also said that he does not accept the rulings of the Supreme Court.
He called on the police and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) to join MDP.
