Communication Authority of Maldives (CAM) has highlighted that reports of intimidating people and giving death threats over the phone are on the rise, and cautioned that services will be suspended without warning for those who carry out such activities.
CAM, mandated to regulate the communications sector, said that the police have been asked to investigate and take action according to the law against those responsible for intimidating people and giving death threats over the phone.
This announcement by CAM came after several officials of the Elections Commission (EC) received death threats over the phone.
CAM highlighted in the announcement that it is a criminal offence to intimidate people and give death threats, and warned that communication services used by those responsible will be suspended without prior warning.
CAM urged the public to report such calls and messages to the police.
